Born in South Africa in 1985 to a Zimbabwean mother and a British father. He has lived in many countries since but his love of Africa has stayed in the blood. His favourite place in the world is northern Natal. The waves are big, land is pure, food is wild and life is simple. A love of nature started in Africa. At an early age Craig moves to the north-west of England with his family. Although a world-apart from Africa, he enjoys exploring the woods with his best friend Oscar, a German Sheppard. At age 14, Craig starts to excel at sports. He plays for almost every school team, represents his town at athletics and even trials with Manchester City Football Club. After Craig’s P.E teacher persuades him to trial for the local rugby league team he finds his niche. The rough and tumble element gets him hooked from the very first game. He makes representative sides and signs his first professional contract for Widnes Vikings. Although life in the UK is good, the Heslop family agrees that the cold city life is not for them. At age 16, Craig and his family move to the North Island of New Zealand. Craig continues to play rugby league for Auckland and Hibiscus Coast. Through his sport he is immersed in the native Maori culture. He discovers the natural way of living and is intrigued to learn about such things a traditional community, hunting and fishing.
Craig’s practicum’s at local high schools are a big eye opener. The poor health of teenagers in Auckland is alarming as is the bore of P.E classes. It seems to Craig that the teachers are paddling up a torrent of youthful sloths. It is bordering on illegal the kind of food that New Zealand High Schools are serving to their students. In his second year of university Craig gets itchy feet and puts his “league” boots on again. He represents New Zealand Universities proudly whilst attracting the attention of the Redcliffe Dolphins in Queensland. After two years of university Craig jumps the Tasman and gives his beloved game one more shot. Whilst living up in Brisbane Craig makes regular trips to the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains for treks and spends many weekends at Australia Zoo. His ambition to meet his childhood hero, Steve Irwin is cut when Steve tragically dies. The physical and mental strength Irwin displayed cements the fact people don’t need gyms to be healthy, they need nature. The roots of Tribal Fitness are starting to grow. After a year in Brisbane Craig looks for new adventures and takes a fitness role at a club in Kuwait. The desert environment is new and whilst he enjoys his job, he’d rather be away from the city and in nature. After being immersed in the conventional gym and fitness industry for “too long” Craig decides it is time to break away. He accepts an offer from some friends to visit Bahrain to start his own company- Tribal Fitness. In March 2010, Craig moves to the Kingdom with a suitcase and a big adventure ahead of him. Though time he explores his own philosophies towards health and fitness. Craig continues to blend his love of nature and fitness.
